Bridging the Gap for Youth and Young Adults in Transition

Providing immediate relief, mobile support, and stability for individuals aged 12 to 21 navigating their residential care journeys and the critical transition to independence.

About Cedarview Independent Living

At Cedarview Independent Living, we believe every young person deserves continuous access to safety, dignity, and support. As a registered charity (707604401RR0001), our mission is to provide innovative, community-based solutions for two critical phases: youth aged 12 to 18 awaiting residential care, and young adults aged 18 to 21 transitioning into independent living.

Young people learning and connecting in a bright community space.

Guided by a strong foundation in Health Science, Behaviour Science Technology, and Child and Youth care, our programs operate on a trauma-informed, harm-reduction philosophy. We work collaboratively to complement existing care systems, offering a wrap-around safety net during periods of high demand and transition.

Support Services

Whether a youth is waiting for a group home placement or stepping into their first independent apartment, we bring proactive support directly to them through:

Essential Hampers & Starter Kits

Delivering nutritious food, essential toiletries, warm clothing, and brand-new mattresses to ensure a dignified living space, plus "Starter Kits" for young adults furnishing their first homes.

Mobile Mentorship, Therapy & Life Skills

Sending specialized staff door-to-door to provide emotional support, facilitate art therapy, engage younger teens in community activities, and teach essential life skills to transitioning adults.

The Digital Bridge

Supplying laptops so youth can keep up with their education, and young adults can build resumes, job hunt, and access virtual resources.

Caregiver Respite & Support

Offering parents and caregivers a much-needed, safe window of respite by engaging youth in community activities, helping to alleviate burnout and maintain stable home environments.

Our goal is to ensure continuous care across the entire transitional spectrum, empowering young people to build healthy, secure futures.

Meet Our Founder

Cedarview Independent Living was founded by Muchaneta Chikonyora, a dedicated advocate with a profound understanding of the complex needs of vulnerable youth and young adults in Ontario.

Muchaneta brings a rigorous academic and clinical foundation to her work, holding a degree in Health Science from York University, along with specialized post-graduate expertise in Behaviour Science Technology and Child and Youth care. This strong educational background forms the bedrock of Cedarview's trauma-informed and harm-reduction philosophies.

Through her extensive professional experience in community care and staffing, Muchaneta recognized the growing demand for continuous, transitional support. She saw a vital opportunity to step in and provide proactive, community-based care that complements existing services. Her vision was to create a continuous safety net--ensuring that youth aged 12 to 18 have resources while waiting for care, and that young adults aged 18 to 21 are not left behind as they age out of the system.

By establishing Cedarview Independent Living as a registered charity, Muchaneta's goal is to work collaboratively to bridge these gaps, empowering the next generation to build their futures with dignity and stability.

How Your Donation Creates Immediate Impact

When you donate to Cedarview Independent Living, your contribution goes directly toward stabilizing youth and young adults during critical transitions. Choose how you want to make a difference today:

01

Youth Dignity & Independent Living Kits

Transitions can leave young people without basic necessities. Your donation funds comprehensive care packages for youth awaiting placement, as well as Independent Living Starter Kits for 18-to-21-year-olds moving into their own housing. This includes high-quality clothing, essential toiletries, fresh food hampers, and brand-new mattresses for a safe, comfortable place to sleep.

02

The Digital Bridge: Tech & Laptop Fund

Continuous access to technology is vital for both education and independence. Contributions provide laptops to youth in transition. A dedicated laptop ensures teens can complete school assignments, while empowering young adults to apply for jobs, secure housing, and access virtual mental health resources.

03

Mobile Mentorship & Wellness Outreach

Transportation and access to programs can be challenging. Donations fuel our trauma-informed, mobile outreach team. Specialized staff travel directly to the youth to provide door-to-door therapeutic support, take teens to community sports, and offer hands-on life skills coaching for young adults stepping into independence.

04

The Transitional Bridge Fund

Navigating between living arrangements is a highly sensitive time. This fund acts as a vital, proactive resource for both age groups. Your support provides interim stabilization--covering emergency essentials, recreation, and mobile therapy--keeping individuals engaged, healthy, and supported as they transition into secure, long-term residential care or independent adulthood.

05

The Family Respite & Support Initiative

Caring for a youth navigating complex transitions can lead to profound caregiver fatigue. This initiative provides parents and families with critical relief. By funding our mobile outreach and recreational programs, you give parents a structured window of respite, knowing their child is safe and receiving therapeutic support, which helps maintain stability at home.
